About Will

-Well, technically, this is my very beginning to teaching songwriting. The reason, however, is because I know the value it has brought to my life, and want to share what I've learned, to help others do the same for their lives.

-Being able to take wild and nebulous ideas from my imagination, formulate them into workable lyrics and blend them with the flowing movement that is music, has been the best lesson I have ever learned. It has added so much meaning to my journey, and helped to document the story that is my life.

-So this is my start, in the journey that is teaching what I know, but I have so much to share, and just couldn't keep it to myself, any longer. I want to help others aquire the skills to write meaningful songs, and to better understand and express themselves.

-In regard to my education and training, I have over ten years of experience with songwriting. It is my trade, my mission, my passion, and have been living my life, in love with the process of writing songs. I feel as if it is what I came here to do. In this time span, I've been in several bands, and was the primary songwriter for all of them. Now, I am a solo artist and preparing for my next album.

About the lesson

-My initial step for helping people write their own songs would be to find out what type of music they hope to be writing. I do this by figuring out the music they enjoy the most, and would like to emulate with their own songs. For example, if someone comes to me and says they want to write songs like, The Beatles, I would know they want to write songs with bright melodies, catchy choruses, and a positive message. This initial process helps me hone in on a specific bandwith of songwriting, and allows me to get to know where my clients want to go.

-My first piece of advice would be to state, that no matter what lesson plan, ideas and experience any teacher could bring to the table, in your quest to learn to write songs, ultimately, you already have everything you need. What I mean is that, you are living a life, I'm sure, that is providing you with plenty of contrast and material to write songs about. We all are. That is the key. I believe everyone has a unique point of view, that is meaningful, epic and valuable. So to take on the role of a songwriter, you are upholding that statement, that you have something to say and contribute, and you share it through this wonderful medium that is music.

-So know this, regardless of whatever teacher you choose, or don't choose, you have everything you need to succeed on this quest of writing songs. This is absolutely true, but sometimes even the greatest heros, in any story, need assisstance, and that's where the teachers come in. They help the hero, with a little insight here, and a little there. The teacher offers new perspective and weathered experience, to help the hero get better and tap into their creative center, on their own.

-One of the best things to have recently happened to me, other than falling in love with my beautiful partner, was finding out, this last Christmas, that she and I were to have a child. It will be our first and we could not be happier with the news.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before even approaching a teacher, I think students should know what they are looking for, at least in a sense. Meaning, are you looking for help in the whole general task of writing songs? (song structure, title creation, writing melodies, etc...) Or are you just looking for help in a certain aspect, dealing with, for instance, how to write better lyrics, or how to make your songs sound more like Bob Dylan, Mumford and Son's, or Jimi Hendrix?

-Get a good sense of what it is you are looking for, as best you can, and it will help the teacher you are looking for, best approach your quest.
