About Francisco
I Am Me supports students of all ages in sharing their authentic selves through personalized mentorship sessions. We are committed to facilitating the intense transformations students undergo in a variety of circumstances across the lifespan. We believe that all learners will not only need to have a strong sense of self, but also have a strong profile to prove that their colleges and jobs of choice are a “best-fit” for them. From entrance essay mentoring to holistic support in college and graduate school applications, to top-notch tutoring and career counseling, as well as passion, curriculum development and DEI family coaching, we team with organizations and families to identify and meet our students’ diverse needs.
Here at the I Am Me Mentors Education Cooperative, we believe the following core values are integral to everything that we do:
Center Solidarity
Authenticity to be who you are
Foster Self-Advocacy for students, families, and educators
Interdependence in order to enrich our communities
By promoting transparency, we create an environment where expectations and capacity of both students and educators are respected.
I strive to empower people. Education is fundamental in making progress in one's life. The opportunity to pass on knowledge and help someone improve is something that brings me great satisfaction.
I began teaching in a bilingual Elementary School in 2014. I did an internship in a bilingual 4th grade classroom. I found that I really enjoyed teaching the children and designing my own lessons. That helped me continue with confidence in the program I was in. I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in Middle School. At first I wanted to be a music teacher, but later on I decided to become a general education teacher.
I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2014 from the University of New Mexico. I specialize in bilingual education for speakers of Spanish. I began teaching right away after graduation in the public schools. I have six years of experience working with students of all ages. I also specialize in teaching Spanish to speakers of English. I am currently getting my master's degree at CU Denver in culturally and linguistically diverse education. I decided to get my Master's to further my knowledge about bilingual education and teaching people new languages. I also specialize in cultural and diverse studies. I am dedicated to social movements that strive to help our society progress by making sure all are taken care of. This is part of what drives me to work with students as I do my best to set an example of how we can live in harmony with the planet.

It is very important for me to first assess where the student is at. As a teacher with six years of experience it is my passion to help students learn from where they are. Sometimes students can have gaps that need to be filled. Other times students need to build a foundation first. I don't like to waste the time of my students so it is very important for me to have a clear vision of where the student is and where the student needs to go. This process begins by using short assessments that are written, oral, and anecdotal. My assessment process is meant purely to diagnose and not to intimidate students and I achieved that by making them succinct and concise. Another important component when I am first working with a student is to include relationship building. This is important because in order to be an effective teacher the student needs to feel trust with their teacher. I achieve this by asking simple questions that give me a window into that person's personality. Getting to know a student also helps me plan my lessons to include fun activities that engage them with their interest. This is important for me because I want a student to feel validated while working with their teacher and feel interested in the things that we go over.
I work with students of all ages and adults. I have the most experience working with primary grades like first and second grade. I have always taught in diverse classrooms primarily with Latinx students since the beginning of my career in 2014.
I encourage students to really think about what they want out of the experience. That way I can do my best to meet their needs. I have a diverse set of skills and I want students to give me their ideas also and that way I can learn more and try to teach in engaging ways.
I gained most of my experience in the classroom. I always loved playing educational games with the children and I love to see them compete. Seeing people happy and having fun while they're learning is something I remember the most about the times I was in the classroom. I like for students to be excited about learning and that's why I always did my best to try to create a fun learning environment
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It is important to have a clear vision of what it is you or the student want to accomplish. The more a student knows about what they want to achieve will result in higher engagement. We learn more when we are intrinsically motivated to learn.
