About Theresa

Ms Theresa loves helping preschoolers learn to read and also enjoys helping parents gain confidence with teaching their child to read.

I have always loved learning, so teaching has come naturally for me. I started right after I graduated from college with my teaching certificate.

25+ years teaching ESL/Bilingual Education

About the lesson

It's important to note that the specific process can vary depending on the student's needs, the subject matter, and the learning style of the student. I like to give individualized attention for each student. Flexibility is a key component of effective teaching and learning. Here are 7 points that I touch on with each student:

Initial Assessment and Goal Setting

Customized Learning Plan

Instruction and Practice

Progress Monitoring

Communication with the student and parent

Feedback and Adaptation

Support and Resources

I have worked with all age levels. I started teaching preschoolers how to read and have taught all grade levels up to high school Spanish.

I recommend scheduling a discovery call as the initial step. This allows you to gauge whether the tutor, like myself, aligns with your academic objectives. It's crucial to inquire and clarify whether we can provide assistance in the specific area of tutoring you require.

The most recent events that I have attended that have helped me with my teaching have been conferences for educators. I've found that attending conferences tailored for educators has been incredibly beneficial for enhancing my teaching skills. These events have provided me with valuable insights, strategies, and networking opportunities to continually improve my teaching methods and stay updated on the latest trends in education.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before approaching your teachers or tutors to discuss your needs, it's essential to be well-prepared. Start by jotting down questions as they come to mind throughout the day. Here are some key questions you should consider:

What specific academic challenges am I facing?

How do these challenges impact my overall learning experience?

Are there particular areas or topics I need extra help with?

Do I have any concerns or questions about the course material or assignments?

Are there specific accommodations or resources I might require?

What is my preferred method of communication with the teacher?

How can I best articulate my needs and concerns to the teacher?

Are there any deadlines or time constraints I should be aware of?

What are my academic goals, and how can the teacher assist me in achieving them?

By thinking through these questions and having them ready during our conversation, you'll be better equipped to effectively communicate your needs and make the most out of our discovery call.
