About Courtney

¡Bienvenidos!

My name is Courtney. My friends call me Corn. I am a recent college graduate from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA where I recieved a Bacelor's of Arts in Spanish. I can offer one-on-one tutoring sessions with any student K-12 who is interested in learning Spanish, I can teach in full Engish or full Spanish, and I can most likely help students struggling with learning disabilities as I have personal experience with overcoming my own dyslexia and auditory processing disorder.

During my junior year of college I studied abroad for 3 months in Sevilla, Spain and in my senior year I taught Spanish to 4th-6th graders at a local elementary school near my college. I've been learning Spanish on and off since I was in grade school. I've always had a passion for foreign languages and after studying abroad I discovered a strong love for the Spanish culture.

In my senior year of college my advisor recommended to me a course in Student Teaching. I was accepted into the course and ended up teaching Spanish at a local elementary school once a week for 6 weeks.

I have a BA in Spanish and have had previous teaching experience in an elementary school with 4th-6th graders.

About the lesson

I like to start of by talking to the student and asking questions about their strengths and weaknesses as a way to gather information to see where they are in the learning process and what kind of learning technique might work best for them, so that by the end of the tutoring session they feel more confidence in themselves.

I have worked with students grades 4-6.

As I've mentioned before, and probably will bring up many more times, I studied abroad during my junior year of college. For 3 months I lived in Sevilla, Spain with a host family and took Spanish classes at the local university. During that time I got a chance to emerse myself in the culture and take part in traditional events such as Semana Santa and Feria de Abril. I also traveled to many different cities in Spain including Madrid, Granda, Córdoba, Barcelona, Aracena, Cadíz, Ecija, and Málaga. It was the best experience of my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
