About Austin

I am a college student in Western Illinois University. I study Spanish Education (3.9 GPA), have lived in Spain and Costa Rica, traveled extensively and have a personal interest in linguistics.

I will be student teaching Fall 2020. I work at home and have skype, desktop sharing capabilities, and am willing to help learners at any level obtain their goals in the Spanish language, whether it be communicating with new in-Laws to brushing up on high school spanish for college preparation.

I have been interested in teaching all my life. I tutored students throughout my high school career and most of college, while studying education classes to teach in high school and later as a professor.

I have taken a large number of education specific classes, undertaken student teaching experiences in two classrooms, and studied methods of teaching language for four years now. I am not only familiar with the language and how to speak it, but also the most effective ways to learn and begin communicating in a language that is not natively learned.

About the lesson

Before anything, I would like to have a conversation free of charge to simply get to know and understand the goals of what we will be working for. Language is a multifaceted construct: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

By understanding why we are learning Spanish, we can make it relevant and more interesting, as well as understand what you already know and are familiar with. Then we can set goals to move forward in a manner we are both agreeable with, as well as understanding time and monetary constraints.

I have worked with traditional, younger students, as well as high school, college, and senior groups more selectively. I have experience teaching heritage speakers, and welcome learners who are looking for an immersion experience, as I have also been trained in immersion techniques.

Look for someone who doesn't just speak the language, but also understands its mechanics, is used to translating, and has training in language methods. The traditional way (rote memorization) of learning language is not effective. Save yourself some headache, learn the more effective way!

Details

For full hour lessons, I typically charge $10. These are one-on-one tutoring sessions of my undivided attention and dedication. We will set up homework you can do to practice as well as go through exercises together to understand the different aspects of the language and practice its sounds.

For all other sessions, prices range but stay around that breakdown (5$ a half hour lesson, for example). If money is an issue, let me know. We may be able to work around it.
