About Rafael

I am native Spanish speaker from Cuba who enjoys working with and teaching others. I moved to the United States 20 years ago and since then have had a passion for learning languages. I am proficient in Spanish, English, and Italian and can teach all levels from beginner to advanced. Since English was my second language, I have a unique ability to teach those trying to learn from an empathetic standpoint. I look forward to working with you!

Soy un hablante nativo del español de Cuba que disfruta trabajar y enseñar a otros. Me mudé a los Estados Unidos hace 20 años y desde entonces he tenido una pasión por aprender idiomas. Soy fluente en español, inglés e italiano y puedo enseñar todos los niveles, desde principiante hasta avanzado. Dado que el inglés es mi segundo idioma, tengo una habilidad única para enseñar a aquellos que intentan aprender inglés. ¡Espero con interés trabajar con usted!

I most enjoy seeing my student's progress over time. It is an amazing thing to see someone go from having limited knowledge in a language to actively becoming better each day. I love to be a part of this process and ensure to encourage my students whether they can acknowledge their progress or not.

Lo que más disfruto es ver el progreso de mis estudiantes a lo largo del tiempo. Es asombroso ver a alguien pasar de tener un conocimiento limitado de un idioma, a mejorar cada día. Me encanta ser parte de este proceso y asegurarme de animar a mis alumnos, ya sea que reconozcan su progreso o no.

I started teaching 7 years ago when my niece moved to the United States. She was my first student and because English was her second language, I gained a lot of perspective on how to teach those in similar situations.

Comencé a enseñar hace 7 años cuando mi sobrina se mudó a los Estados Unidos. Ella fue mi primera alumna y, como el inglés era su segundo idioma, adquirí mucha perspectiva sobre cómo enseñar a quienes se encontraban en situaciones similares.

About the lesson

When working with new students, I usually set up a 30 minute free consultation to gauge where the student is at in their learning process with the language of interest. Once I understand this, I develop a lesson plan based on their school work each week, or individual skill-level if they are learning recreationally.

Cuando trabajo con estudiantes nuevos, generalmente establezco una consulta gratuita de 30 minutos para evaluar dónde se encuentra el estudiante en su proceso de aprendizaje con el idioma de interés. Una vez que entiendo esto, desarrollo un plan de lecciones basado en su trabajo escolar cada semana, o nivel de habilidad individual si están aprendiendo de forma recreativa.

I have worked with students of all ages with varying experience levels. Most of my experience has been with children, but I have also taught many adults.

Language requires a lot of patience and understanding, especially when first starting out. When hiring a teacher, I would look for these qualities above all.
