About Lauren

Hi my name is Lauren Wall! I have been swimming since I was 5 and I'm currently a swimmer at Trinity University. I've been teaching swim lessons for 3 years now as well as coaching a neighborhood swim team. My experience ranges from toddlers who have never been in a pool before, to athletes trying to perfect their technique. Swimming has always been a huge part of my life and I want to open those same doors for young kids. I am super energetic and patient with all swimmers. I would really love the opportunity to teach your children the importance of water safety.

I love the work I do because teaching swim lessons is a job that changes lives. Swimming is such a necessary life skill and many people grow up without the opportunity to learn. I want to do my best to make swim lessons available for everyone.

The swim club I swam for had a lessons program the fed into the team and it was very convenient for me to walk to work right after practice. As soon as I was old enough, I began working there.

I have taught swim lessons at a swim club for 3 years and taught through a program called Swim America. I received my training and CPR certification through them. This summer I was the head 6 and unders coach for a summer league team and coached thirty 6 years olds how to swim and even get faster.

About the lesson

When I first get a student I like to evaluate their past experience with swimming. If they have never swam before we will start with learning the basics like bubbles and how to hold and crawl on the wall. Crying is to be expected and I usually deal with this by using distractions like asking them what their favorite song is. If they are comfortable in the water and can float we will focus a lot on kicking and body position and then quickly move into adding the arms. Freestyle and backstroke will be the main concern for new swimmers.

I have worked with ages 2-18 and I've also had experience teaching special needs children.

Always do private lessons no matter where you go. It may be more expensive to teach only one student at once, but it my experience group lessons mean your child will be getting half of the attention and swimming half as much as they would if it was a private lesson. They can also become quite distracted and try to turn swim lessons into play time.

This summer my 6U Girls Relay Qulified for an inviational meet and seeing the joy on their face when they saw how fast they went made me really proud to be their coach. I love seeing how quickly my swimmers improve and how happy it makes them. It makes all the early mornings worth it.

I charge $25 for a 30 minute lesson. I always do private lessons to ensure each child gets 30 minutes where all of the attention is on them.
