About Nicole
Hello, I'm Nicole. It's nice to meet you! (Let's pretend we just shook hands.) Allow me to tell you about myself. As a kid, I hated school. I certainly never intended to teach! Yet as life often does, my life led me down an unexpected path. Now I use what I hated about school to engage students so they will develop a love for learning.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2010. In 2013 it became necessary for me to start homeschooling my oldest child. I have been homeschooling my three children since then, as well as tutoring 59 other students over the past 5 years. These students have ranged in age from 5 to adult. I am a blogger, a freelance writer, a lifelong learner, and a total sucker for a great story.

My tutoring approach is highly adaptive, with constant monitoring and tweaking based on the needs of my students. I teach reading and rhetoric to students of all ages. I teach essay writing and creative writing to students in grades 4-12. I do not believe that one approach fits everyone, that everyone can learn the same way, or even that one lesson plan will work for each student. Therefore I watch and assess constantly, looking for areas where my students could use a change. Sometimes that change is an adjustment in technique, material, pace, or even a complete rewrite of our lesson plan!
My tendency to constantly tailor lessons for my students is what sets me apart as a tutor - and it's what helps my students thrive! I always strive to gently push students toward excellence without causing any overwhelm.
