About Anthony

I hail from West Texas. I’ve been in California permanently since 2014. I taught in Texas at different towns. I was all district in High School along with qualifying for regionals in State tennis in 1983. I am bilingual (Spanish) and am outgoing, and a sports enthusiast. I am also a counselor in addiction. I motivate and allow the student to be his/her teacher as well. I lead with what the person is strong in to make their weak side strong.

I started out in a small community called Rockdale, Texas. I worked for an industrial company and Alcoa was the major player industrywise there. So, much of our business was Alcoa and I got to meet hundreds of the people working there. Many liked playing tennis but were not good at it. My name got around of being a tennis player in high school and some college. One lady asked me if I would teach her. I said sure. Then, we decided on 12.50 lessons for 30 minutes. Next thing you know, I had employees and even their children keeping me very busy.

I played at the high school level for four years and college level for two years. I coached part time back in 2006-2008 at the 6th -8th grade level. I also taught privately before in 1995 until 1997. This is a  new time as I’ve thought about doing this for the past year and now have made the decision.

I like to meet one on one to get acquainted and make sure we “like” each other and can have a working relationship. If we cannot have fun, then learning is twice as hard and makes it uncomfortable for both parties.

I’ve worked with the ones barely getting started to ones with a couple of years experience. I don’t work with many that are already proven as ego tends to be a big factor. I enjoy the early process. It’s a great joy to see someone that does not even know how to correctly hold a racquet get knowledge, understanding and see their “aha” moment.

I would say write. Write down what you want or need from this experience. Write down your strengths, weaknesses and questions. Write where you lack satisfaction and where you want to become stronger, whether spiritual, physical or mental. Then, write what you ask for from a teacher. Write past e that hurt you as a person. Also, writ that helped you.

I donate time to the homeless, addicted, and mentally ill. I am always fond of any event I can help out on. I am an avid trail runner too and look for races that donate some of our entry fee money to worthy causes as cancer survivors, teen mothers, and foster homes.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Are my goals realistic?

Are my goals attainable?

Am I willing to go to any length to achieve what I want?

Will I remain teachable?

Will I humble myself and become a better player as well as a person?

Will I give to others in order to keep what has been given to me, both from a sport as well as in being a better human being?

Will I always have respect, honesty, and manners as tennis is the game of life as well as a sport?

Since this is new to me again, I’ve decided to meet, see where we are at, what we want to accomplish and also from a financial ability to pay, incorporate a sliding scale such as in the doctors office as to the payment.

Also, I will incorporate my counseling, mentoring and life coach skills into the physical aspect of tennis. The mind is important when playing competitive tennis. Without a good mind, a good game means nothing.
