About Jefferson
Hello! I am Jefferson Tunks. I am an alumni of Jasper High School and a graduate of Western Kentucky University with my Music Education Degree. I am going to be a Master's student at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where I will pursue my Master's Degree for Trombone Performance. I am extremely passionate about music and my career goals are being a professional musician and being a trombone instructor at a university. I have played trombone since 6th grade (11 years!) and also regularly play bass trombone.
Some of my accomplishments include being a substitute member of the Owensboro Symphony, being a member of WKU's top ensembles (Wind Ensemble and Orchestra) for the past four years, and being WKU's performer of the semester for the brass department.
Here is a quick list of who I have had taken lessons with: Lee Blakeman (WKU trombone professor who I have taken 100+ lessons with), Bryan Heath (Louisville symphony bass trombonist who I have taken many lessons with), Steven Brown (Nashville Symphony bass trombonist who I have taken many lessons with), Charlie Vernon (Chicago symphony bass trombonist), Mark Fisher (Chicago Lyric 2nd trombonist), Paul Pollard (IU Jacobs School of Music), Pete Norton (Cincinnati Symphony bass trombonist), Mike Becker (Tuscon principal trombone), Brett Schuster (University of Louisville trombone professor), and Bradly Kerns (University of Kentucky trombone professor).
Teaching lessons is an opportunity for me to share what I love doing most, making music, with another person. Getting to watch a student learn a new concept for the first time and then master that concept in the subsequent lessons never gets old for me.
I began teaching private lessons in high school to 6th and 7th grade students and fell in love with teaching. Then I pursued my music education degree at Western Kentucky University which provided me with connections and experiences to work band camps for many different bands, teach private lessons to new students, and to student teach a high school band program.
I have a bachelor's degree in music education and am currently pursuing my master's degree in trombone performance. I have also taught private lessons to first year band students all the way to high school seniors so I can teach students at many different levels.

The first lesson will be an opportunity for me to find out your ability and goals on trombone and then we will work out a process for you to achieve those goals. I will provide you with PDFs of exercises, etudes, etc... so do not worry if you lack materials.
From 6th grade beginners to high school seniors wanting to major in music.
Find someone who is supportive and caring. Obviously you want a teacher who is experienced and can convey ideas to you easily, but having a teacher who cares about you and creates a positive environment for learning is equally important.

Our lessons were virtual. He was very easy to work with. The virtual lessons went very well. Jefferson really knows what he is talking about and was able to provide my son with some great ways to improve his skills.

Gave really helpful advise
I liked how Jefferson had a plan for every lesson and played every exercise to demonstrate how it should sound. Over the course of a month, he helped me improve my playing on the trombone greatly.
He was a great teacher and helped me learn a lot of new skills over the summer. I had a lot of fun working with him and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a teacher.
