About Ronald

At ronpaulviolin.com, All are welcome. Any level and age from never touching the instrument to aspiring professional.

The violin is a deceptively simple looking instrument with just 4 strings and a bow. Despite it's intimidating reputation, I truly believe anyone with a desire can learn and enjoy the experience and ultimate journey.

From a technical perspective, it boils down to basic Newtonian Physics. It is applying the physical to musical expression where all the magic happens and where I can help.

ABOUT ME

My professional life has come full circle. After baroque and modern violin study at the Royal Music Conservatory in the Hague, the Netherlands, between 1974 and 1978, I played professionally in Vienna, Austria until 1983. I switched careers with a degree in Computer Science from UCI in 1987 followed by 29 years in R/D at both HP and Marvell Semiconductor. Now heading into my golden years, I am re-immersing my heart and soul back into the classical music world as a member of the Salem Symphony Orchestra, playing as much chamber music as possible and giving lessons.

About the lesson

Method is Old School. This is simply how I learned so this is how I teach. That isn't to say it isn't individualized which leads into my philosophy.
Every physical and behavioral human attribute is unique. What doesn't change are the physical laws dictating how to control tone, rhythm, dynamics, articulation and proper pitch. My job is to become familiar enough with the physical and behavioral attributes of my students to help them connect the right dots. The key is being mindful of the goal of musical expression - what I refer to as an unbroken circle of physical energy appropriately channeled to support the artist's musical intention.
Boiled down to bare essentials - Always make music. It is even possible to play a simple scale with musical intent - and it is far more enjoyable too!
Lastly, I encourage everyone to seek out like-minded individuals in the community to make music together. This is where the fun really begins and flourishes.

Details

Fees are structured to fit each individual's needs scaled to accommodate the needs from small children to adults as well all skill levels. For example, just a 20 minute lesson for $20 may be appropriate for a child or 60 minutes for $60 for an aspiring professional. I am happy to work out arrangements due to a financial hardship.
