About Jie

I received great violin training from age 9 to 16 at the Shanghai Music Conservatory in China. During those years, I learned and performed many pieces of the core violin repertory and developed by the same token a solid and reliable technique. Then, I went to New York to study with world reknown violinist, violist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music for 4 years. After that, I studied at the Juilliard School of Music before my performing career took off with the Escher String Quartet. Needless to say that in New York, I matured a lot musically. I was performing professionally with the Escher string quartet all over the world and finally decided to start teaching both violin and viola at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege in 2012. I currently have been teaching for 16 years now and moved to Plano with my husband three years ago. I teach both beginners and advanced students on violin and viola. Many of my students have won competitions and got into music conservatories such as the Curtis Institute of Music and Cleveland Institute of Music. My style of teaching is not dogmatic. I observe my students and build a personalized teaching plan according to his or her needs. If you are interested in hearing me play the violin, please click on my youtube channel below.

Biography

Violinist Wu Jie has garnered unprecedented success as a performer and teacher. She obtained her first solo appearance at 15 years of age with the Shanghai Music Conservatory Symphony Orchestra during a tour of Germany and Switzerland. After winning first prize at the Orford Second International Competition in 1999, Wu Jie moved to Montreal to study with Eleonora Turovsky and during that period, she performed to great acclaim on several occasions with the I Musici Montreal Chamber Orchestra and the FACE Symphony Orchestra in their respective concert tours across Canada.

Following that success, Miss Wu was invited by Pinchas Zukerman to study with him at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music and while doing so, Miss Wu performed with the NAC Orchestra twice as a soloist in the Canadian capital.

While being a student, Wu Jie played in the public master classes of many renowned violinists and pedagogues such as Isaac Stern, Gil Shaham, Zakhar Bron and Ana Chumachenco.

As a chamber musician, Miss Wu is a founding member of the Escher String Quartet, a group mentored in its inception by late cellist David Soyer and later on by the members of the Emerson Quartet. Miss Wu played with the Escher Quartet from 2005 to 2012 and during those years, Wu Jie performed all over the world and collaborated with many esteemed artists such as Grammy Winner Jason Vieaux, David Shifrin, Leon Fleisher, Anne-Marie McDermott, Wu Han, Paul Neubauer, David Finckel, Larry Dutton and Pinchas Zukerman. Wu Jie recorded the entire Zemlinsky quartet cycle with Naxos and served on the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme from 2010 until 2012. Prior to that, she was a member of the Chamber Music Society Two Program of Lincoln Center in New York from 2006 to 2009.

As a teacher, Wu Jie taught many violin and viola students at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege form 2013 to 2017 and several of them are now in prestigious schools such as Curtis Institute of Music, Yale University and Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2018, Wu Jie was an artist-faculty member at the (concealed information) chamber music festival.

She now lives in Plano TX with her husband Pierre Lapointe, violist of the Escher String Quartet, and their two children Arthur and Isabella.

I love working with children and see them improve as a violinist/violist and human being. I love teaching and figure out each child's personality and find the best way to teach each one of them. I love challenges and help them fix problems on their instrument, promote music and having my students loving music.

I started in my college year as a violin assistant to Patinka Kopec. I was teaching her younger students and helping them fix technical prolems and build stronger technical foundations.  I loved teaching from the very beginning.

At 9 years old, I was accepted to study violin at the Shanghai Music Conservatory in China. After that, I completed a BM with Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music and studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York for a MM.

First, I usually ask my students, or their parents, what their goal is. Then, I hear them play a little. For beginners, I have them try to play the violin and do some singing, to make sure they have an ear for it. After that step, I normally have a teaching plan in place for them.

Both advanced and beginner students.
