About Darius

The Wordsmithing service is a individually owned, and innovative new writing service aimed at creating and developing amazing writers. I have an incredible passion for writing, as it is the ultimate method of inner expression and thought processing! I, as the owner and CEO, hope to not only aid in writing improvement, but overall confidence in a student's academic success with my down to earth and relaxed, yet professional approach to tutoring.

I been a college-level writing tutor for 8 years, with four being at Winston-Salem State University, three at Appalachian State University, and my first year being a private service. I have expansive experience in providing consultations for APA/MLA/Chicago style formatting, Written assignment editing and resume/CV generation for college and high-school level students.

Everything! I enjoy everything about writing and tutoring from the typing of the keys to the look of satiisfaction on the face of a student who is proud of the work they have done! This is all a learning process, so I look to learn from my clients as well.

I am not a teacher, but I have always had a passion for writing that was intensified when I was offered a position in the writing center during my freshman year at Winston-Salem State University.

Winston-Salem State University: 4 years of undergraduate and professional writng consultation experience.

Appalachian State University: 3 years of graduate and professional writing consultation experience.

About the lesson

When first meeting my clients, I do like to establish rapport with them on a personal level in order to ease the stress typically associated with the tutoring process. Not only does this help in creating a professional relationship, but ensuring that the sessions will be a fun and undaunting process will actually have students looking forward to improving their writing!

I have worked with College level and high school level students. Additionally, I have consulted diverse subgroups within the academic population, including students with disabilities, student with English as a second language, and members of the community simply looking to improve their resumes and general writing capabilties.

You should not feel embarrassed, shy or incompetent about needing or wanting a writing tutor! Despite how tedious it seems, writing is an artform, and can be a liberating experience if done the right way. As tutors, we are not here to criticize or belittle any student, but to help them grow to a point where they may not need a tutor at all anymore aside from a simple proofreading service!

A recent tutoring experience was with my most recent client in need of changes being made to her APA-formatted research paper. We have worked together before, so our online session was energetic, filled with humour, and also very informational regarding the facets of proper APA formatting. Her assignment's body, reference page, in-text citations and appendices were reconstructed to complement display her true writing abilities. Seeing people proud of their growth in the use of language and writing does give me a strong sense of fulfillment.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
- What is my assignment asking of me? Do I understand what the rubric is demanding of my work?

- What do I think about my writing, and what areas do I believe need improvement?

- What are my writing strengths?

- How exactly will this service benefit/improve my writing in the long/short-term?

Mr. McClain gave appropriate updates about the status of my request, meticulously taking notes on my expectations, and a prompt time in delivering the finished product.

My only regret is that every service request that I have with other companies, doesn’t come with the same superior client experience as Mr. McClain’s Wordsmithing! Please do yourself a favor and use his services!
