About Shannon

I am a Third Year Student Studying BMus Classical Vocals at the University of Chichester. I have an intellectual music background ranging from Jazz Singer / Band Work, Grade 5 Theory, Grade 8 Piano, experience in a range of Chamber choirs (and currently an Alto Scholar at Arundel Cathedral), Opera and Musical Theatre Productions and the list goes on! I have had plenty of roles teaching children from being an Educational Leader on a Farm, receiving my Apollo 5 Young Leaders Certificate and being a Music Teacher Assistant in Summer Camps, so have worked with all ages and willing to adapt my teaching style to each student (4-18), as well as able to teach a range of levels (from beginner to Grade 5).

I primarily teach Piano, but am willing to teach Vocals as well (my main Degree Focus).

About the lesson

I like to approach my students by seeing where they stand musically and seeing what they know to begin with - this can range anywhere from beginner level to having a more in-depth understanding of music (whether it be the piano or in other areas). I tend to start with basic techniques to strengthen the foundations of their knowledge - such as learning scales, finger work and having a secure grasp on rhythm. With this, my students are then able to venture into basic pieces and motifs, gradually working their way up with their understanding of the instrument and musical technicality. Most importantly I strive to make my lessons fun and entertaining, as my hope is to share my knowledge and love for music with other keen budding musicians who haven't had the opportunity to do so!
