About Lucy

I am a professional violist and passionate music educator based in Hampstead, London. I recently moved to London with my string quartet, the Vita Quartet, after we were awarded a full scholarship, supported by Philip Carne MBE, for the Centre for Ensemble Excellence at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

As an active performer, I maintain a professional career alongside my teaching. With the Vita Quartet, I have performed at venues and festivals across the UK, delivered outreach projects in schools and communities, and performed for the premiere of the BBC period drama The Other Bennet Sister. I have also performed with ensembles including the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Irish Studio Orchestra, including performances with singer Sienna Spiro. My professional work has also included recording a CD of Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 3 and 5 in the Netherlands.

I have a strong passion for sharing music with others and believe that learning an instrument should be an enjoyable, inspiring and rewarding experience. As a teacher, I aim to create a friendly and encouraging environment where students feel supported, develop confidence and discover their own musical voice.

About the lesson

I offer violin, viola and music theory lessons that are tailored to each student's individual goals, whether you're a complete beginner, preparing for ABRSM or Trinity exams, working towards auditions, or simply learning for enjoyment. I teach people of all ages and abilities and aim to create a friendly, supportive and encouraging environment where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes and enjoy the learning process. I strongly believe in positive pedagogy, celebrating progress and helping every student develop confidence alongside strong musical skills.

Lessons are individually tailored and are typically 30 minutes for younger children and 60 minutes for older students and adults, although lesson lengths can be adapted to suit individual needs.

I hold a Diploma in Music Teaching and Performance specialising in both violin and viola from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Trinity College Dublin, alongside a BMus in Music Performance and an MMus from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. I have taught violin, viola and music theory at South Dublin Music School, Sandford Park Secondary School and through private tuition in Ireland.

Alongside one-to-one teaching, I regularly deliver interactive workshops and performances in schools across the UK with my string quartet through Wye Valley Music. These sessions involve introducing children to chamber music, encouraging creativity and participation, and making classical music engaging and accessible for young audiences. This experience has strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching to different ages, abilities and learning styles.

As an active professional violist, I enjoy bringing real-world performance experience into my lessons. Whether your goal is to pass an exam, join an orchestra, prepare for an audition or simply play for pleasure, I will work with you to develop excellent technique, musical confidence and, above all, a lifelong enjoyment of music.
