About Lisa

I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential and achieve outcomes they may not have thought possible. Coming from a working-class background myself, I never assumed I would one day hold a doctorate. That journey was only possible because of the outstanding teachers who supported and believed in me, and that experience strongly shapes the way I teach today.

I understand the difference great teaching can make, and I aim to provide the same level of support, encouragement, and high expectations for every student I work with. My focus is on building confidence, developing strong exam skills, and helping students achieve the highest grades they are capable of.

About the lesson

I am a highly experienced Sociology teacher and tutor with nearly 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience across GCSE and A Level. I have consistently achieved results above the national average throughout my career, with a strong track record of helping students exceed their target grades.

My approach is structured, exam-focused, and highly personalised. I begin by identifying each student’s current level and specific gaps in knowledge, then tailor lessons to target these areas directly. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, essay structure, and understanding how to meet the exact requirements of mark schemes. As a former AQA examiner and Head of Sociology, I also provide unique insight into what examiners are specifically looking for, which helps students maximise their marks.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged closer to exams or for intensive support. Each session is interactive and focused on active learning, including discussion, model answers, structured feedback, and exam-style practice questions.

All of my recent students have achieved excellent outcomes, with 100% of my tutees last year achieving grades A*–B. Notably, two students achieved full marks in their examinations.

I tutor GCSE and A Level Sociology students (typically ages 14–18), both online and in London. My sessions are suitable for students who are aiming to improve their grades, build confidence, or achieve top results for university progression.
