About Chad
For the last 10 years, I have been a Professor of English and Humanities at MCC, and an award-winning faculty mentor for Phi Theta Kappa. Before moving to Arizona and MCC, I taught various courses in my original home discipline: New Testament, Koine Greek, Septuagint, Ancient Judaism, and Religious Studies. For the last eight years, while teaching at MCC, I have also worked as a private academic coach, helping students of all ages with Biblical Studies, Trivium, Religious Studies, Social Sciences, Academic Writing, Reading Strategies, Nonlinear Processes, Executive Functioning, Research Methods, et al. I am very proud that, in the last decade, I have helped 3000+ students learn how to learn on their own, and how to win the academic game.

In all of my sessions, I use a semi-Socratic approach. (I learned years ago, as a TA during my MA and PhD programs, that preaching to/at students does not work.) With this approach, I am also in the process of diagnosing them so that I can get at the real roots of their academic struggles. Doing so, carefully and patiently, allows me to really help them remove any barriers to learning and help them build their own academic self-confidence. Over the years, I have enjoyed much more authentic student success with this kind of sensible approach than with any other fancy-named pedagogies.

As an international student, I have found Chad very easy to work with. He is very kind and takes extra care when explaining my grammar mistakes and my phrasing. In addition, he is a top-notch, experienced teacher with knowledge in many other areas. I am very lucky to have Chad as my own private professor. -- Genie Yang
