I see mathematics as the combination of rigorous craft and intuitive art, both of which I teach. I believe in the idea of patiently breaking down each idea into simple, understandable pieces that harmoniously come together. My methodology begins with a free "Lesson 0" to determine a student's background and goals. I specialize in the math curricula for grades 8-12 students in the Ontario and International Baccalaureate programs and math contests:
- Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors
- Grade 12 Advanced Functions
- Grade 12 Data Management
- Grade 11 Functions
- Grade 10 Principles of Mathematics
- Grade 9 Destreamed Mathematics
- Grade 6-8 Mathematics
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Mathematics (SL/HL) and pre-IB
- Math competitions
I assign homework and provide feedback on it. I teach using a pen tablet and screen-sharing via Zoom. I am available via email and text. Please note that I only take on students who are seeking long-term tutoring, meaning at least for a semester, in order for our work together to produce a real transformation.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

Mathematics has been my chief interest since I was quite young. There were two critical events that made me decide to pursue math as a profession. Firstly, I was introduced to math contests run by the University of Waterloo CEMC and the Canadian Mathematical Society, which led to my qualification for the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad in my senior year of high school. Secondly, as a teenager, I read The Man Who Knew Infinity, which is a biography of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, as well as parts of Euclid's ancient Elements of Geometry.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

My love for math comes from two sources: my desire to understand the interplay of intuitive truth and rigorous truth, and my attraction to symmetry. When I read Eucid's Elements of Geometry as a high school student, it established within me a deep yearning for verifying truth with certainty that is as close to being absolute as possible; when I read about Ramanujan's blinding flashes of insight, it made me wonder if ordinary people such as myself could also learn to intuitively sense mathematical truth. Secondly, math is full of amazing scenarios of invariance or symmetry, where a property remains true despite changes in its environment. This idea of changelessness amidst change is very attractive to me.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

As a teacher, I have an opportunity to pass on, not only mathematical knowledge but a mentality of pursuing the truth. While the concrete subject that I teach is math, it is a medium for teaching general problem-solving skills, inductive and deductive skills, and critical thinking skills. I also emphasize the interplay of intuition and rigour in my teaching through a variety of techniques such as visualization. What makes me a "Superprof" is that I seek to instil and have succeeded in instilling this mental framework in my students.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

I had the immense privilege of going to a good high school and great university. Years after graduation, I am still in touch with one of my school teachers. In university, I had the opportunity to do research with three professors and coauthor a paper with one, the latter of whom is still a good friend. In addition, I enjoy reading books by or about mathematicians who serve as examples to me. I was especially influenced by problem-solving books written by George Pólya and Paul Zeitz.
  • What are your keys to success?

I believe that the keys to success lie in a few principles: Be intensely curious, be competent, be accountable, and make friends with people who have those three qualities. In addition, it is a good idea to do work in the intersection of what interests you, where your skills lie, and what people value. Finally, sleep adequately, eat well, and exercise.
