About Rene
Artist Bio Rene Escovedo is a professional drummer/percussionist, performer and instructor, a band leader based in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Born to the famed Escovedo Latin music family (Bobby Escovedo “Father”, Thomas “Coke” Escovedo, Pete Escovedo, Sheila E, Juan Escovedo, Peter Michael Escovedo, Phil Escovedo, Alejandro Escovedo), to name a few. René began his music education in grade school. At the age of nine, he got his first jazz drum kit and began his lifelong artistic journey as a drummer/percussionist. Self-taught, initially he played whatever music was popular throughout the years, but honed in his skills by being around his uncles, and the many music artists they would perform with throughout the ongoing years. That gave him the opportunity to attend many performances at renowned venues from an early age; places like The Greek Theater in Berkeley, The Fillmore Theater in San Francisco, Yoshi's in Oakland, The Stone in San Francisco. He would eventually go on to perform at all those venues, and many others. Early in his career he went on to study martial arts, dance, voice, music, performance arts and sound production at Alameda College. A consummate professional who's always working on developing his skills as a musician, he's also the founder and leader of a few of his own groups, René Escovedo & Son Sabroso (A 8 Piece Salsa Group), René Escovedo and The Funky Cha (Funky Latin Fusion), René Escovedo’s Latin Jazz Ensemble, René Escovedo’s Latin Jazz Trio (Tres Amigos), René Escovedo & The Fuse, a powerful instrumental ensemble, and René Escovedo & The New E!, with an emphasis on R&B, Funk, and Soul. René is also an international touring percussionist with Con Funk Shun, the legendary R&B and funk band that throughout the years has had four consecutive Golds and one Platinum album, 20 hit singles including 8 Top Ten R&B Hits, among other artistic achievements. Grateful to those who took the time to teach him, René has gone on to become a drum & percussion instructor himself, providing small group and individual lessons with fun contemporary materials that support active engagement. He has also been an active board member of a few community-based music and entertainment foundations, such as Musically Minded Academy and Spotlight On The Bay Entertainment, to name a few. Currently René is always performing at many local live music venues throughout the entire greater Bay Area. He also has a consistent online presence via many social media platforms.
