About Whitney

With 7 years of teaching and professional music experience, I am a passionate violin tutor dedicated to helping students achieve technical mastery, musical expression, and self-confidence. I teach school and college students at all levels, from beginners learning foundational techniques to advanced learners preparing for recitals, competitions, and exams.

One of the most meaningful milestones in my career has been guiding students from struggling with technique, posture, or stage confidence to confident performers capable of playing with skill, emotion, and musical interpretation. My teaching emphasises building strong technical foundations, including posture, finger placement, bowing technique, rhythm, tone, and intonation, while also nurturing creativity, musical interpretation, and expressive performance.

I integrate music theory, sight-reading, listening exercises, and performance practice to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of music. Lessons are customised to each student’s pace, goals, and learning style, creating a patient, supportive, and inspiring environment where students are encouraged to explore, express themselves, and reach their full potential. Teaching violin allows me to cultivate confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love for music in every student.

About the lesson

I teach violin with a methodology built on motivation, communication, creativity, and integrity, designed to nurture technically proficient, expressive, and confident musicians. Lessons are personalised to the student’s abilities, goals, and learning style, combining technical exercises, creative exploration, improvisation, and performance preparation.

Motivation is central. I help students set achievable goals, track progress meticulously, and celebrate milestones, fostering perseverance, self-confidence, and a love for music. Students learn to approach challenges positively and see mistakes as stepping stones towards improvement.

Communication ensures lessons are interactive and collaborative. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share difficulties, and discuss ideas openly, creating a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment.

Creativity is emphasised throughout each lesson. Improvisation, composition, and interpretation exercises allow students to explore their artistic voice, build emotional expression, and connect deeply with the music they play. Integrity reinforces disciplined, responsible practice and respect for learning, cultivating habits that guarantee long-term success and artistic growth.

Alongside violin, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, rhythm exercises, and piano, providing students with a complete foundation in musicianship, performance, and academic achievement.
