About Helen
I am a medical student and have been giving private piano and theory lessons for the past year. Music is my passion, and even during busy times I will always make time for teaching students and myself. I have previously taught 3 students Grade 5 Theory ABRSM, who have all passed.
I started playing piano when I was 4 and achieved a merit in Grade 8 ABRSM 2016. Over the years, I have entered various music festival competitions and won numerous awards which have gained me invaluable experiences towards my perspective on music.

If you need to get your Grade 5 Theory out of the way in order to do Grade 6, this course is for you!
Having been through the exam myself, young, I understand how unnecessarily confusing theory can be, so I am passionate to teach only the easiest and best methods to make sure you pass that exam!
Grade 5 Fast Track Theory Lesson Plan/Contents:
At each week there will be set homework, past paper questions and a vocabulary test.
Week 1:
1. Basic recap – How to name notes/lengths/rests and time signatures.
2. Memorizing all Major/Minor Keys – up to 6 sharps and flats
3. Naming the notes of a scale
4. Tenor Clef/Alto Clef
5. Vocabulary/Performance Directions (Part 1)
Week 2:
1. How to write melodic and harmonic minor scales.
2. Enharmonic Equivalents
3. Irregular time signatures – Quintuple and Septuple time
4. Vocabulary/Performance Directions (Part 2)
Week 3:
1. Transpositions and understanding how to use the keyboard trick.
2. More Irregular time divisions
3. Vocabulary/Performance Directions (Part 3)
Week 4:
1. Intervals and Compound Intervals – Count distance, then describe
2. Ornaments
3. Vocabulary/Performance Directions (Part 4)
Week 5:
1. Naming chords
2. Naming cadence chords – (I, II, IV, V) noticing passing/auxiliary notes!
3. Instruments and voices
4. Vocabulary/Performance Directions (Part 5)
Week 6 – Onwards: Past Papers and Marking/Feedback as needed.
