About Charlie
I am a first-class undergraduate at Durham University, studying for a BSc in Physics and Mathematics. In my A-levels I got A*A*A*a* and in my GCSEs (concealed information) - I understand what is needed to do well in an exam. I have a year of tutoring experience with Moon Tutoring, where I have coached several students to A* grades. I am also DBS checked. My long-term goal is to become a researcher and professor of theoretical physics. Teaching is something I value deeply, both for the opportunity it gives me to share knowledge and for the chance to nurture excitement in others about mathematics and physics. I enjoy helping students not only understand new material but also develop confidence, curiosity, and a genuine interest in the subject. In my teaching, I draw on my view of education as something that should give students autonomy and freedom while also providing consistent support and resources. I aim to take students seriously as learners and as people, balancing challenge with encouragement.

I usually teach in one-hour sessions, though I’m also happy to offer longer two-hour lessons with a short break in between if that suits the student better. My approach is guided by the student’s interests and needs: I provide problems and material at an appropriate level, with the aim of both consolidating understanding and pushing the student to progress further. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, I begin by identifying areas of strength and weakness—either through initial assessment, ongoing observation, or the student’s own reflections—and then tailor lessons to focus on the areas that need the most attention. Homework can be set if desired, but the emphasis is always on building confidence and addressing gaps in understanding.
