About Tom

Hi, I’m Tom — a Finance and Investment Banking student at the University of Greenwich. I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers and explaining concepts clearly, which led me to start tutoring GCSE Maths. I’m patient, organised, and enjoy helping students build confidence in topics they once found difficult. Alongside my degree, I use maths daily in areas like data analysis, problem-solving, and financial modelling, which helps me link classroom maths to real-world use. I aim to make every lesson engaging, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s learning style.

About the lesson

My lessons are relaxed but structured, focused on helping GCSE Maths students fully understand topics and feel confident in exams. I start each session by identifying areas that need more clarity, then explain each concept step-by-step in simple, logical terms. I use examples similar to those found in real GCSE papers and make sure students understand both the method and the reasoning behind it. Lessons include practice questions, exam-style problem solving, and short recaps to strengthen understanding. I aim to build confidence gradually and help students see maths as something logical and manageable, not stressful. I’m usually available for lessons on Tuesday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes, but I can be flexible depending on the week.

Experience:
I achieved a grade 7 in GCSE Maths and studied the subject at A-Level, so I understand the common challenges students face and how to explain topics clearly. I now study Finance and Investment Banking at the University of Greenwich, where I use maths daily for analysis, data work, and financial problem solving. This practical experience helps me connect classroom maths to real-world applications and teach genuine understanding, not memorisation. I’ve helped classmates and younger students with maths for several years, always focusing on patience, clarity, and encouragement. My rate is £22 per hour for GCSE Maths lessons, which includes all preparation and resources. The first lesson is free, so we can discuss goals and see how I can best support your learning. Payment can be made by bank transfer after each lesson, or weekly if preferred.
