Hi there! I'm Jana, a second-year student at the University of Toronto, where I’m diving deep into the world of commerce with a specialization in economics and finance. I’ve always had a passion for numbers and how they shape our world, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with others. My journey in tutoring began in high school, where I discovered the joy of helping classmates unravel the mysteries of math. Since then, I've expanded my experience, including working as a teaching assistant, where I helped students navigate challenging concepts and find their confidence. As a math tutor, my approach is centered on making learning both engaging and effective. I focus on understanding each student's unique learning style, using a variety of teaching techniques, including visual aids, interactive tools, and real-life examples, to make complex concepts more relatable. I emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving, encouraging students to explore the "why" behind math processes rather than just memorizing formulas.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review of previous material to reinforce learning. We then introduce new concepts through practical examples, ensuring they connect to the student's experiences. Together, we work through problems step-by-step, with ample time for questions and clarification. Students then tackle problems independently, with my support as needed. We conclude by summarizing key points and assigning practice problems to solidify understanding and prepare for future lessons.
What sets me apart is my ability to make math accessible and enjoyable. I tailor lessons to each student’s pace and interests, using a dynamic mix of activities and technology to keep them engaged. My patience and enthusiasm help build their confidence, fostering a positive and proactive attitude towards challenges. Continuous feedback and celebrating small successes ensure students stay motivated and see their progress.
My tutoring is ideal for middle school to high school students, whether they need help with basic arithmetic, pre-algebra, geometry, algebra, or even calculus. I cater to students who are struggling to grasp foundational concepts as well as those aiming to excel in advanced classes. My goal is to create a supportive environment where every student can unlock their potential and build a solid foundation in math for future success.
