About Patrick
My name is Paddy Davies Jones. I am twenty-one years old, I live in South London, and I have recently graduated from Cambridge university. I am intending to go into the academic world and am keen to keep my academic engagement consistent and to help anybody I can to achieve their desired standard (hopefully while showing any potential student why English, and the humanities more generally, are worth being passionate about). My critical approach is broadly historicist and will locate any materials studied in their cultural contexts — relatedly, I would also be more than happy to teach Religious Studies or History, which I studied at A Level and which I believe to be inextricably linked to the study of English literature.

Lessons will be online and will last between forty-five minutes and an hour. Teaching will be geared towards developing a fuller understanding of how texts operate, particularly in their historical and social contexts, while also focusing on practicing the vital skills of close analysis. Since essay technique is ultimately how any of these skills are proved this will also be an area of focus and I would ideally like to see some of a students academic work as early on in the process as possible. I would be willing and happy to tutor students as GCSE and A-Level standard. I graduated 14th in my year in the University of Cambridge English Tripos and achieved 4 A star grades at A-Level and 10 Grade 9s at GCSE, and have previously worked with the tutoring agency TutorDoctor.
