About Colette
I am a recent graduate from the University of Birmingham with a first class degree in English Literature.
Having loved reading since I was younger, I hope to inspire the same passion for literature in other students that was cultivated in me by my teachers.
I received a 75 in my dissertation on Unreliable Narrators, Immoral Protagonists and Reader Response Theory in 20th Century Literature which looked at American Psycho, Lolita and In Cold Blood so have a broad understanding of both classic and contemporary literature. This has set me in good stead to assist students in essay writing.
I have played piano since I was 9 and have achieved grade 8 piano (ABRSM), grade 8 keyboard (Trinity), grade 5 theory (ABRSM) and recently started learning the harp. Some of my favourite composers are Chopin and Debussy and I am able to tutor students in classical music, as well as more relaxed teaching with piano music from musicals like Hamilton and Wicked, and other more modern music.

I will offer an encouraging, enthusiastic approach to teaching, helping to adapt my lessons dependent on the student's needs.
Having studied a wide range of literature across A Level and at University, I have a broad understanding of different areas of literature to benefit students, from covering postcolonial literature, to literary theory which can be useful in providing context to the books they are studying.
Lessons will be fun and most importantly collaborative. I want to keep students engaged and make sure that they enjoy literature as much as I have over the last few years. Whether it is helping them create revision resources like mind maps and other visual tools, or helping them with essay writing and grammar, I'm there to support the student with whatever they need.
Overall, I aim to keep students engaged and enthusiastic in a learning environment that will support them.
