About Japheth
Hello there! My name is Japheth but all my friends call me Jeff! I'm a 21 year old Law Student at the University of Bristol and I've always wanted to teach in some form or another. My current aspiration is to be a University Lecturer but I believe that tutoring really helps establish the essential foundations that will help me become the best teacher I can be. I strongly believe in an informal, yet structured, approach to tutoring so don't worry about being too pressured to do well in our sessions! My main goal is to help you become comfortable with your subjects. It's okay to ask questions, make mistakes and to be ambitious in your work. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to learn from our previous work, right? I am extremely professional as well. I have had a stable part-time job since the age of 17 and have been trusted with many responsibilities despite my formal position being of lower authority. I'm also extremely friendly as I have a younger brother and sister and have worked with children in professional spaces before. I hope you consider me as a tutor and I look forward to helping you in any way I can!

I strongly believe in tailored, patient and structured learning for my students. I believe that a student cannot just enter straight into their work whilst being walked through by their tutor. It is extremely important to go over the theory taught in class before they begin their work. Through this method, the student is allowed to ask any questions they may have been too afraid or hesitant to ask in class. In that way, no student is left behind. I aim to teach 45 minute to 1 hour sessions. Studies show that lessons that run for too long are more detrimental to the intellectual capacity of a student. Students are already subject to unnecessarily long lessons and school days. Tutorials should be shorter and more informal in order to make the content digestible. I am a First Class Honours graduate in Law at the University of Bristol. Furthermore, I have achieved a 9 in GCSE English Language and an 8 in GCSE English Literature with a Distinction in English Speaking. I have also been awarded a Speech Award at the age of 13. I achieved perfect grades for Creative Writing (Poetry) and have an extensive interest in academic writing in particular. I achieved a 7 in IB English Language and Literature at a Higher Level (equivalent to an A**) by utilising unorthodox and metaphysical analyses of the literature provided to us in examination. I have also gained experience in online tutoring with students who do not consider English their first language (tutor at TASSEL with a specific focus on basic English proficiency in 6-12 year old Cambodian children). I am quite experienced with working with children from the age of 7 as I have been teaching my younger siblings for as long as I can remember. I am also able to teach children from the age of 6 who do not have an adept grasp of the English language (having been an immigrant and have experienced this difficulty in my own life). I am also able to teach students at a GCSE and AS level.

Japheth spends most of his free time learning new things and exploring his curiosity through various platforms be it at libraries, through newspapers or even youtube. He is one of the most intelligent people I have known. It is difficult to break down complex ideas to someone unaware of that knowledge but Japheth always uses simple language to explain and adequately teach his pupils. He is also non-judgemental and patient with people who comprehend information at a relatively slower pace. I highly recommend you to consider Japheth as you would get a professor with hilarious humour, great communication, high intelligence and most importantly a great motivator for when subjects seem too hard.
