About Dylan
Hi! I'm an MSc student at the University of Edinburgh studying Human Cognitive Neuropsychology. I recently graduated with a first-class honours degree in Applied Psychology, BSc (Hons). I averaged first-class across all years, roughly equivalent to a 4.0 GPA.
If you're an undergrad in the social sciences or the humanities struggling with any of the following I want to help you:
Essay and report writing
Critical analysis
Research synthesis
Literature review
Data analysis concepts (Type I/II errors, IVs, DVs etc.)
Data analysis tools (R / SPSS)
Dissertation / Empirical Final Project.
Ethics committee approval
Ethical and compliant AI use
And more :)
I don't come from a wealthy background, nor did I have a smooth ride in academically, or mentally for years in my previous undergrad and high school. If you'd like someone with intimate experience in bouncing back and getting a handle on things, I'm here to listen, help and give you advice on what worked for me.
I'd love to help someone become the academic dark horse they were always meant to be. I take a biopsychosocial approach with my students, as academic focus and performance is the fruit of so many other factors.
I don't have much experience tutoring so the first session with me will be free for my first few students :) Let's do this!

Teaching methodology:
My approach starts with what the student already knows and builds outward from there. Psychology is a subject where exam marks hinge on how clearly you can build an argument from evidence, so my sessions run more like dialogue than a lecture. I ask "why" and "how" questions constantly and get students voicing their reasoning back to me, which is where the real learning happens. Teach a man to fish...
There's a genuine psychological phenomenon behind this. My MSc research area is metacognition, how people monitor and adjust their own thinking, and the same tools translate directly into study skills e.g. recognising when you actually understand something versus when you're intuitively pattern-matching from memory.
Resources:
For content-heavy weeks I use worked past papers, textbooks, mark-scheme unpacking, and short essay plans. For research methods and statistics, I lean on real examples from my essays to get students designing and critiquing studies before we touch definitions.
Typical lesson lengths:
60 minutes — standard weekly A-level / Higher sessions
45 minutes — GCSE or single-topic focus
90 minutes — exam prep intensives or essay planning
30 minutes — one-off consultations before a mock or coursework deadline
Qualifications and experience:
- First-Class Honours, BSc Applied Psychology (Glasgow Caledonian University, 2026)
- MSc Human Cognitive Neuropsychology, University of Edinburgh (2026–27)
Undergraduate dissertation:
Used the Think Aloud Protocol methodology to study metacognition in expert performers, direct first-hand experience with the research design and analysis A-level and undergrad students meet in textbooks.
Comfortable across all major UK exam boards: AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and SQA (Higher / Advanced Higher)
Familiar with APA referencing and dissertation-style academic writing.
New to formal paid tutoring, though I've supported peers throughout my degree with essay structure, research methods, and exam technique. I was that kid in the classroom.
Who these lessons are for:
- A-level Psychology students (AQA / OCR / Edexcel) — Year 12 and Year 13
- Scottish Higher and Advanced Higher Psychology students
- Undergraduate Psychology students working on research methods, statistics, or essay/report writing.
