About GIOVANNA
My name is Viviana Carvalho. I am a Florida-certified Portuguese Language Instructor with a solid academic background and extensive experience teaching heritage speakers, native English speakers, and students from diverse cultural backgrounds across the United States. Originally from Brazil and currently based in Florida, I have been dedicated to language education since moving to the U.S., working with learners at different stages of life and professional paths.
My teaching experience includes K–12 students, adults, and professionals in both public and private institutions. I have taught Portuguese in classroom settings, small groups, and one-on-one lessons, as well as through virtual instruction using platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. This allows me to offer flexible and accessible classes to students nationwide.
I hold a Florida Department of Education certification in World Languages – Portuguese and official ACTFL/LTI certifications in both Oral and Written Proficiency. In addition to teaching, I have professional experience in curriculum development, distance education, instructional design, and bilingual program support, always using methodologies aligned with second language acquisition.
I am passionate about cultural exchange, building student confidence, and designing personalized lessons that align with each learner’s goals, whether for academic advancement, travel, heritage language preservation, or professional development. I enjoy creating meaningful and effective learning experiences and would be glad to connect with students seeking structured, engaging Portuguese instruction.

My lessons are communicative, structured, and student-centered. I combine proven second-language acquisition methodologies with real-life language use, focusing on speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a balanced way. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s goals, learning style, and pace.
A typical lesson includes guided conversation, targeted vocabulary and grammar presented in context, and practical activities that reinforce real communication. When appropriate, I use authentic materials such as short texts, videos, and everyday scenarios to help students build confidence and fluency in Brazilian Portuguese.
What sets me apart is my ability to balance academic rigor with practical application. My experience teaching K–12 students, adults, and professionals allows me to adapt my methodology to different levels and learning needs, ensuring structured yet engaging lessons.
