  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Spanish fluently because it is my native language and has been a part of my life for over 30 years. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household gave me a natural foundation in reading, writing, and speaking. While teachers helped me refine my skills, my fluency comes from living the language daily, using it to connect with family, community, and culture.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Gabriel García Márquez, the Colombian Nobel Prize-winning author, is a great representative of the richness of Spanish. His works, such as Cien Años de Soledad, demonstrate how the Spanish language can bring imagination, history, and culture to life. His storytelling reflects the soul of Latin America while also resonating worldwide, proving the universal beauty of the language.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

One phrase that I truly love is “Mi casa es tu casa” (“My home is your home”). It represents the warmth, generosity, and openness often found in Spanish-speaking cultures. It’s not just a phrase, but a way of life. A willingness to make others feel welcome and part of the family. That sense of connection and belonging is one of the things I admire most about the language.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Spanish matters to me because it is a part of my identity and my way of staying connected to my roots. At the same time, it’s also a tool to connect with people from different backgrounds. With more than 20 countries where Spanish is spoken, it opens doors to friendships, professional opportunities, and cultural experiences that would otherwise be out of reach. Teaching Spanish allows me to share that gift with others.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

One of the biggest challenges learners face is understanding the many verb conjugations and tenses. Spanish grammar can feel overwhelming at first. The best way to overcome this is by learning in context rather than just memorizing rules. Listening to music, watching films, and having real-life conversations help the language feel more natural. Breaking the learning process into small, practical steps also keeps students motivated and confident.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I remember in school, many classmates would come to me for help with their Spanish homework. At first, I just explained vocabulary or grammar, but over time, I realized how much I enjoyed teaching them in ways that made sense for their level. Seeing their progress and confidence grow gave me a deep sense of fulfillment. That experience planted the seed for my passion for teaching, and it’s something I’ve carried with me into adulthood.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Traveling to Mexico, Spain, Peru, and Bolivia gave me an even deeper appreciation for the diversity of Spanish. Each country has its own accent, slang, and cultural expressions, and experiencing them firsthand broadened my understanding of how dynamic the language is. For example, words that have one meaning in Spain may have a completely different meaning in Peru. These travels helped me not just speak Spanish, but live it in its many beautiful forms.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me a Superprof is not just my fluency, but the way I teach with patience, clarity, and enthusiasm. Being a native speaker with 30 years of experience allows me to offer students not only strong grammar and vocabulary foundations, but also cultural knowledge and real-world applications. I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs, whether it’s conversational fluency, academic support, or professional use, and make learning Spanish both fun and practical. My goal is for students to feel confident and excited every time they use the language.
