About Callie

I’m a piano tutor with 2 years of teaching experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance. My passion is helping aspiring jazz pianists develop the skills needed for advanced conservatory programmes such as Berklee, Juilliard, and similar institutions.

My lessons focus on building technical strength alongside creative expression. Students explore jazz harmony, chord voicings, improvisation, and rhythmic phrasing. These elements help create a strong jazz foundation.

We also study jazz repertoire and analyse how professional pianists shape their sound. Improvisation is a central part of my teaching approach. It encourages students to discover their own voice at the piano.

My goal is to guide students towards advanced performance skills and artistic confidence. Lessons are structured yet creative. Together we unlock the full potential of jazz piano.

About the lesson

My teaching method focuses on helping students understand classical piano from both artistic and historical perspectives. Strong technique is important, but understanding the music is equally valuable. Lessons combine technical practice with thoughtful musical discussion.

We analyse classical repertoire and explore musical forms such as sonata form and theme and variations. Students learn how composers develop ideas throughout a piece. This understanding helps them perform with greater confidence.

Historical context is also included in my lessons. Students learn about composers, musical eras, and artistic influences. These insights add depth to interpretation.

Students are encouraged to explore expressive phrasing, dynamic contrast, and emotional communication through their playing. For some learners, piano also becomes a peaceful and reflective activity. I support them in developing sensitive and nuanced performances. My goal is to guide students towards meaningful and expressive musicianship. Together we bring classical works to life.
