About Bruce

I'm Bruce, I'm a Melodeon / Diatonic Button Accordion player and multi-instrumentalist based in North-East England and have been playing traditional music for about 15 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music and a First Class Honours Degree in Folk and Traditional Music and have been performing professionally for the past 7 years. I've been teaching for some years and have a detailed knowledge of traditional and contemporary music repertoire from England, Central France, Brittany, Scotland, Ireland, and Scandinavia. I currently work with a couple different ensembles and projects, notably the Euro-folk band Hearken Quartet and contemporary-traditional dance event DIY Ceilidh.

About the lesson

When it comes to teaching, the main focus is always the aims and goals of the student. Students will be able to choose the types of repertoire they'd like to learn, with each new piece of repertoire introducing new techniques and ideas to develop their playing. Whether you're interested in learning tunes for your local session or your own enjoyment, developing your playing style, learning new techniques, or widening your repertoire, that's what we'll do! If you just want to learn how to play but have no idea of what direction to take, we can work that out together and get you set up with what you might need to play what you'd like to play! DISCLAIMER: I only teach Melodeon or Diatonic Button Accordion (D/G) but it was not a category for this instrument on the website. I cannot teach Piano Accordion or Chromatic/Continental Button Accordion.

Started as a complete beginner with Bruce which was a good choice. He gave me a solid foundation to work on the general mechanics of the instrument and also suggested a diverse range of fun tunes to play that were within my level. Bruce is a very patient tutor and would be a good choice if you are a very fast learner and also if you are a bit slower like myself.
