About George
I am an academic retraining to be a psychotherapist. Currently I am studying for an MSc in Psychology, ending Sept 2020. My previous achievements were in fields involving literature, critical theory, history. In addition to a doctorate from the University of Cambridge, I hold a higher degree (Habilitation) in comparative literature from a German university.
During an academic career at the highest international level, I held prestigious research fellowships and wrote two monographs. As well as teaching modules at other universities, I acted as a supervisor for around a dozen Cambridge colleges between 2008 and 2019.
Having started out as an English tutor in Germany back before I began university, I've now taught hundreds of students at various levels. I enjoy teaching and have lots to pass on.

My teaching model is flexible and we can discuss your exact needs and aims in the first lesson. Often I like to centre tutorials around specific texts rather than discuss topics in general: this will give you a much deeper and more effective grasp of the material. I also like to incorporate current research from cognitive psychology into learning approaches, for instance by using interlaced and 'chunked' revision, with a focus on repeated assessment. These techniques are especially valuable if you are preparing for exams.
