About Joy
Educational Background: As part of my certification training, I obtained a Master of Education (M.Ed) degree in Secondary Education and Teaching, which has provided me with a strong educational foundation for tutoring. This background equips me with a deep understanding of educational principles and practices, whichI hope to apply as a tutor.
Commitment to Student Success: My proven track record of increasing the rate of students passing core-English classes demonstrates my commitment to student success and growth.
Passion for Learning and Development: My current work as a career and college coach for high school students along with my 3 years spent in the classroom teaching English, English Honors and African American Literature have all been driven by my love for connecting students to the broader world around them through literature and composition. I am not only well-versed in teaching but also understand the needs of students with significant academic barriers and how to address them effectively.
Problem-Solving Skills: As indicated by my time working in the corporate professional development and learning space, I've gained strong problem-solving skills. These skills can be applied to helping students tackle difficult concepts and overcome academic challenges.
Diverse Background: My involvement in various programs, including my time as a Corps Member for Teach For America, and at the Peace Corps demonstrate my willingness to engage with diverse communities and backgrounds.
