About Thomas

With 17 years of front-line educational experience, I offer a level of expertise rarely found on tutoring platforms. My career spans from serving as a Head of Science and whole-school leader (EVC), to spending the last 5 years working as a professional Curriculum and Assessment Creator specialising in science and cognitive abilities.

With full QTS, I haven’t just taught the GCSE syllabus—I’ve directed it, analysed cohort data, and quite literally written assessments. Having spent years deconstructing cognitive processing and analysing over a many years of AQA, Edexcel, and OCR examiner reports, I know exactly how students learn, where they needlessly drop grades, and how exams are designed to catch them out. My teaching style is calm, structured, and focused on turning exam panic into quiet confidence.

About the lesson

How I Teach: The Diagnostic Method

Forget passively reading textbooks. Because I design assessments for a living, I can reverse-engineer the GCSE papers for my students. My sessions use the exact strategies I used to lead science departments:

Pinpoint Diagnostics: We start by finding the exact gaps in your knowledge using targeted multiple-choice and cognitive diagnostic questions.

The 'Examiner Blueprint': I teach the vital difference between what a student writes and what an examiner actually rewards, focusing heavily on decoding command words.

Cracking the 6-Mark Questions: We break down extended responses using proven frameworks so you never face a blank page in the exam hall.

Flexible Formats: Available for intensive 1-to-1 coaching or engaging small group sessions (2-4 students), giving you Head-of-Department level feedback at a more accessible price.

Who This Is For (Daytime Availability)

I tutor exclusively during the day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Because I focus strictly on GCSEs, this schedule is perfectly suited for:

Home-Educated Students: Structured, premium QTS instruction covering the full specification during normal school hours.

GCSE Resits & College Students: Perfect for post-16s with flexible timetables needing to finally secure their Grade 4 or 5.

Alternative Provision: Calm, expert academic support for students learning outside of mainstream full-time education.

Study Leave: Intensive daytime exam prep during the crucial May/June exam season.

All sessions are delivered online via a professional remote setup or in-person by arrangement.
