About Allison

My former students hailed from Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, Columbia University, Harvard, Williams College, and more. I taught and supervised many cohorts of the highest performing students from the high school level to the doctoral and postdoctoral levels. I partnered with the American Studies department at Columbia to create a robust and comprehensive internship program and mentored dozens of students from Exeter and helped them prepare for college by providing real work experience. I also partnered with the CUNY School of Professional Studies to create the first in-house museum practicum curriculum at the Historical Society. The tour I developed at Historic Huguenot Street was awarded a prestigious New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant.

About the lesson

I am a graduate of history from SUNY New Paltz. My undergraduate thesis was top 10 of the department and I graduated with honors and recognition for my internship work.
My career in the non profit sector began at Historic Huguenot Street where developed the first women’s history tour offered by the institution. I later worked at the Merchant’s House Museum as a docent and was later offered a position at the first Center for Women’s History, the first of its kind in any major museum in the US, at the New-York Historical Society. I worked at N-YHS for five years where I developed and executed over 100+ public programs and worked with legends such as Billie Jean King, former Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, the Salsa Soul Sisters, former First Lady of NYC Chirlane McCray, Rebecca Traister, Irin Carmon, and dozens more. I oversaw the postdoctoral fellowship program at the special collections library and the pre-doctoral program and high school and college internships. I helped develop the Museum Studies Master’s program with the CUNY School of Professional Studies. I am excited to offer my expertise and experience to earnest students working on their history papers or interested in pursuing the field.
