About Meghan

Hi, I’m Meghan! I’m a former NYC math teacher with 10 years of classroom teaching experience and more than 15 years of tutoring experience.

I hold two master’s degrees, including a Master’s in Secondary Math Education from Queens College and a Master’s from Baruch College focused on school improvement and leadership development.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with students with different learning styles, confidence levels, and academic needs. One of my favorite parts of teaching is helping a student go from “I’m just not good at math” to realizing that they are capable—they may simply need a different explanation, more practice, or the confidence to trust their own thinking.

I bring the same patience, structure, and encouragement that I used in my classroom to every tutoring session. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and challenging themselves while developing the skills and confidence to succeed independently.

About the lesson

I believe students learn math best when they understand why something works—not just when they memorize steps.

I start by identifying what a student already understands and where the gaps or misconceptions are. From there, I build lessons around their individual needs, using clear explanations, guided practice, questioning, and different approaches until we find the one that makes sense to them.

A typical lesson includes a quick review or warm-up, focused instruction on the skill we’re working on, guided and independent practice, and time to review mistakes and talk through the student’s thinking. I also incorporate games, challenges, and real-world examples when appropriate to keep students engaged.

What sets me apart is my experience as both a classroom teacher and a tutor. I spent 10 years teaching math in NYC schools and have more than 15 years of tutoring experience. I hold two master’s degrees, including a master’s in Secondary Math Education. I understand that struggling with math isn’t always about ability—sometimes students need a concept explained differently, additional practice, or help rebuilding their confidence.

I work with middle and high school students in middle school math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and SAT/ACT Math. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but to become more confident, independent problem-solvers.
