About Darab

I'm Darab, a University of Toronto student currently studying Economics — but my real mathematical background runs deeper than that. I spent two years rigorously studying Pure Mathematics at UofT before switching programs, which means I've worked through the kind of math most people never see: real analysis, abstract algebra, proof writing, and more.

Outside of academics, I've been involved in math education in different ways — private tutoring, peer tutoring, and volunteering at a high school math club — and I genuinely enjoy the process of helping someone go from confused to confident. There's a specific moment when something clicks for a student and it shows on their face — that's what keeps me interested in tutoring.

I'm also a patient person by nature. I worked as a Passenger Service Agent at a busy international airport, which taught me how to stay calm, read people quickly, and communicate clearly under pressure — skills that matter more than you'd think when you're sitting across from a stressed Grade 12 student the week before their final.

Math has a reputation for being cold and inaccessible. I don't think that's true — I think it just needs the right explanation.

About the lesson

My approach is simple: I don't move on until you actually get it. No rushing through material to hit a checklist. I'd rather spend twenty minutes on one concept and have it click than breeze through five and leave you more confused than before.

A typical session starts with figuring out where the gap is — sometimes it's not where you think. We'll go through the concept from the ground up if needed, work through examples together, and then I'll have you try some on your own while I'm there to catch mistakes in real time. I also try to show the why behind the math, not just the steps, because that's what actually sticks.

What sets me apart is the depth of my background. I spent two years studying Pure Mathematics at the University of Toronto — courses most people never encounter — before moving into Economics. That means I understand the foundations of the math you're learning better than someone who just did well in high school. I can explain things multiple ways until one lands.

Who this is for: Middle school students (Grades 7–8) building their foundations, and high school students across all four years — including the harder courses like MHF4U (Advanced Functions) and MCV4U (Calculus & Vectors). Whether you're trying to pass or trying to push your average up for university, I can help.
