About Teresa
Hi! I’m Teresa, a native Italian speaker from Rome.
I started teaching Italian at Yale University in 2018, where I taught Italian language and culture for six years while completing my PhD in Italian Studies. Since then, I’ve taught in different settings: online and in person, individually and in the classroom, working with everyone from complete beginners to highly advanced students.
Outside of teaching, I love traveling, literature, cooking and yoga, and I’m always interested in meeting people from different places and backgrounds.
I’m curious, very informal, and naturally a little shy — which is probably why I understand so well how intimidating speaking another language can feel. My first year living in the U.S. certainly taught me that :)

My lessons are built around one simple idea: you learn to speak Italian by actually speaking it.
I try to use conversation from the very beginning, even with complete beginners. Grammar and vocabulary are important, of course, but rather than studying them in isolation, I like to introduce them naturally through the things we are trying to say together.
There is no single lesson format: I adapt the materials, pace and amount of correction to your level, interests and goals. We can work with conversation, texts, videos, music, literature or simply whatever you are curious about that day.
I have taught everything from absolute beginners to highly advanced university students, both individually and in groups, online and in person.
And mistakes are very welcome. Stop mid-sentence, make up a word, switch to English, gesture desperately — we’ll figure it out :)
