About Jean-Mari
My name is Jean-Mari de Vries, and I am a passionate and experienced educator from Cape Town with a deep love for languages and learning. I hold a Bachelor of Education in the Foundation Phase and an Honours degree in Teaching and Learning, specialising in Second Language Acquisition. Having taught both Afrikaans and English at primary and tertiary levels, I understand the challenges and joys of learning a new language. My teaching style is warm, structured, and supportive — I aim to make Afrikaans engaging and accessible for every learner, no matter their background or age. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your fluency, I tailor lessons to your goals and help you grow in confidence as you connect with the beauty of Afrikaans.

I like to use the learners' strengths in a holistically stimulated environment by focusing on an approach that the student enjoys. I am fully proficient in Afrikaans and English and can teach bilingually. Students can expect to participate actively and cooperate on tasks tailored to their needs . My specialty is Foundation Phase (Grade 1-3) language learning, but I have also taught Afrikaans in a university context and am happy to tutor adults.
