About Katie

I'm a proficient and passionate tutor with a deep love of languages. I'm 21 years old and a fourth and final year student of French and Spanish at the University of Bristol, and I've been studying French for over 10 years. I've just finished a year abroad where I spent 6 months in Paris teaching English in schools, and 6 months studying languages in Valencia, Spain. I have lots of experience with language teaching and working with young people, and having done my own school exams not that long ago (as well as working with students this year, since the changes to GCSEs/A-Levels) I have a good understanding of the system and how to excel in these exams.

About the lesson

Experience teaching ages 3-16 - but anyone is welcome and capable of language proficiency! Beginners, intermediate, exam preparation (eg GCSE/A-Level) for French.

I believe language learning can be (and is!) fun and interactive. I take more of an interactive approach: rather than drills in a grammar book, I have found that an engaging session where you can put your learning into practice is much more effective. I believe that this type of learning encourages a more 'spontaneous' ability in a language. This confidence is invaluable not only for 'real life', but also in experiencing less anxiety in exam situations (proven by my own experiences and reported by many of my students in the past!).

Lessons of about an hour. Typically 5-10 minutes of chat in the language before any 'teaching' (this is very informal and not at all stressful, but massively important for language practice!). Lessons vary based on level or specific aims (ie conversational proficiency, A-Level oral exam etc) but typically consist of the main important skills of language learning: grammar, vocabulary, speaking and listening. Lessons are largely interactive and work best with some preparation or practice at home before (set by me and no more than 20 minutes).
