About Caterina

I am primarily a freelance actress and contemporary dancer based in London. I moved to London in 2013 to complete my Bachelor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of London. I then completed a Postgraduate program in Physical Theatre and 2 years of acting training while working professionally in the industry.
Languages have always fascinated me very much. I was very interested in grammar and linguistic studies since High school especially learning Latin and Ancient Greek. Before getting accepted to Trinity Laban I studied at University of Foreign Languages and Literatures in Bologna., gaining knowledge on Linguistic studies, English, German and Russian.
I have tutored foreign friends before who were willing to a familiarize with Italian. Back in Italy I also have been teaching Italian Grammar to foreign students (8-12 yo) in after-school no profit courses in Modena, organized by AGESCI Boy Scouts association.

About the lesson

I approach the classes considering the aim of the students first and understanding where the student is coming from to tailor each class. Every lesson will be focused on a specific component of the language, in order to create a grounding tool-kit. Having been myself as a student approaching difficult languages such as Russian, I always found it vital to set the grounding of grammar by comparing the differences between my native language and the new foreign language willing to study.

I believe that schematizing grammar rules and having methodical exercises are essential keys in the first steps of learning a new language. In these lines, the use of pronouns, adverbs, adjectives in grammatical and Logic analysis of a sentence together with Verbs analysis are the first grounding steps.

I would also focus on articulation and phonetic practice of diphthongs, vowels and consonants, which might require great attention to ease pronunciation and facilitate a quicker learning of the Italian vocabulary.
When it comes to pronunciation, I find my acting training incredibly helpful. I easily step into the student's shoes as I have myself the need to train articulatory phonetics in english to perform at best my British accent on stage and become as clear and articulate as possible :). I am enthusiastic to share my practice and try to tailor it to specific needs! This can be great fun as well, involving also breathing exercises which can be applied to Italian diction as well!
