About Sylviane

I'm a French native speaker who has lived and worked in England for 40 years. I retired from full-time teaching recently but still work part-time as a tutor which I enjoy thoroughly. I am also an examiner for the Edexcel exam board. As I have been teaching for 36 years, I have wide and varied experiences of teaching KS2, KS3 and GCSE French. I also taught A level French a few years ago and more recently as a tutor with great success. Whoever I'm teaching will have a good French accent and knowledge of the culture and the language as they're all important for a successful outcome.

About the lesson

As I am a native speaker, I can really help with Speaking skills but also writing and correct use of French grammar. I have also been marking the French Speaking exams for the new GCSE since May 2018. During my career as a language teacher, I have been used to tutor and coach students during intervention sessions at school, offering 1 to 1 proved especially useful to improve students' speaking skills and give them confidence. I'm patient and will try different approaches to suit the ability of the individual learners. For younger children, I think 30 minutes lessons are enough but for older students studying for GCSE or A level, an hour would be needed to make real progress, obviously this depends on the motivation or ability of the student.
