About Carla

Hi everyone,
My name is Carla, I recently graduated from McGill University in environmental health and political science. I have been giving private lessons for two years now, to fourteen students between the age of 6 to 27. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need help with homework or learning french.

About the lesson

-Start the class with some questions that you may have (cultural habits, vocabulary, French places to visit in Montréal etc..)+ with conversational basics (Greetings, how are you, talk about the weather and what you did the day before)
-A different conversation each class (based on a topic you’d like to work on)
-List of vocabulary I’d have created before the beginning of class and completed at the end of the conversation, followed by a grammar lesson.
-Test your written skills by giving you a short “essay” question based on the conversation we had last session, to use the vocabulary and grammar you learnt .
-Something I really like to do is to use Art (paintings, videos, movie extracts, songs) to teach French. How can I do this?
For instance, by making you listen to a song and play “fill in the blanks” or make you brainstorm the main ideas you got from it.
-End the session by saying what you liked about the class and what you wish could be improved or added.
For beginners:
-I’d have to assess how much of a beginner you are … Do you know the alphabet or sounds such as elle/eille/ette etc...?
If not, we’ll start from here, by learning the alphabet with a song (makes it easier to remember), work on sounds with flashcards, greetings, etc…
-“Homework”: Learn the vocabulary list (pronunciation, how to write it, meaning(s) of the words)+ Learn something new about French speaking countries or about the language itself+ Check out the song/movie extract or article I’d have sent you+ Find a conversation topic.

Hana answers fast which makes scheduling classes easy. She helped my student when she had homework and was open to suggestions (books/videos). Her daughter understands spoken french perfectly, she was very enthusiastic and nice to teach to. We mostly reviewed what was done in class and worked on conjugation/vocabulary.
