About Madeleine

I am currently doing my PhD in French literature at the University of Edinburgh. I completed my MA at UCL in French (Literature and History) in 2021, received a 1st/Distinction and my PGCE at the University of Oxford, teaching French from ages 11 to 18 in 2020. I graduated in 2019 with a First in French studies, University of London in Paris, where I spent three years getting to know the language in-depth. My subject interest is deeply embedded as my mother is French and therefore, my subject is very much my life and culture. Education is and naturally should be reflective and reflexive of the world around us, in terms of diversity, challenges, support, goals and self-evaluation. My commitment, through my own reflexive practice, to promoting and reflecting these aspects when teaching is strong. Teaching is a career that has always come naturally to me, of which I thoroughly enjoy, and therefore hope that this is reflected in my students' learning.

About the lesson

Top end tutor. I graduated with Firsts for both my undergraduate and postgraduate. I trained at Oxford for my PGCE. My background is in comparative literature and history (specifically French and English literature/history). However my studies have always been broad so I have done media studies essays and being half French I love to give French language lessons.

I have taught students with dyslexia and dyspraxia, appreciating that we all learn in differentiated ways - my techniques are therefore dependent and often align with my students' work habits and learning nuances. I always aim to set up a system which my students can then use throughout their education. My lessons are normally 1hr but would be happy to extend.

During the pandemic I taught French (language) in secondary school or for students' entering secondary school. My lessons can range for age groups and levels, my eldest student thus far as been 87 years old and my youngest, 5 years old. I have done essay work (editing and style writing) with undergraduates and I am currently working in a primary school.
