About Lou

Born and raised in a small town near Paris, I have a master’s degree in English Medieval Studies from La Sorbonne and King’s College London and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) in Modern Foreign Languages (French and German) from UCL - the number one university for teacher training in the world!

I started teaching English in Paris in 2019 and have been teaching both French and German in a Secondary School in Central London for nearly a year.

Alongside my professional teaching career, I have been tutoring for 9 years, both in-person and online.

These 3 experiences combined have allowed me to have a well-rounded approach to teaching foreign languages. I have also learnt Farsi, Arabic and Hindi in more recent years, which means that I am extremely familiar with the struggles encountered by language learners yet I also know how to turn them into achievable fun challenges as a language teacher!

I am a certified teacher and hold an Enhanced DBS check.

About the lesson

Want to improve your French reading, writing, listening or speaking skills in no time?

The best way to learn is to have serious fun. Whilst my approach will always be tailored to your needs and what you prefer, I know that a structured lesson during which we can have fun is the best way for your brain to assimilate information quickly, especially with languages.

After 9 years of tutoring and 4 years teaching in secondary schools, I have a well-rounded approach but will always work with you to understand what you need to make progress.

Please note that I also prepare for GCSE, A-Levels, International Baccalaureate or any certification involving French. This means the lessons will be more academic but not less dynamic and interesting!

• What does a typical lesson look like?

We’ll begin with a quick warm-up - up to 10 super easy questions in French.
Then the lessons objectives and how the lesson will be structured will be introduced in English in order for you to understand what is going to happen.
And then the fun begins! I aim to speak French during 90 to 100% of the time during the lesson, but you won’t feel lost at all! I use all sorts of resources (images, prompts, gestures, body language) to ensure you are following.
Small games, board games, card games, online games, speaking games, sketches, anything that takes your fancy will be used to introduce the vocabulary needed.
After this I will check for your understanding through texts or questions or a listening exercise.
Finally we’ll wrap up the lesson with a small written task.
