About Daisy
I am a friendly, enthusiastic and patient person who has successfully studied Maths to higher level in the International Baccalaureate (‘IB’), which is equivalent to Maths & Further Maths at A Level. I gained a grade 6 (out of 7), which only the top 24% per cent of IB students achieve. I also have an A* in GCSE Maths along with A* grades in four other GCSEs (including English Language), five As, one B and one C).
I have a real passion for maths and I helped a lot of my friends at school and sixth form when they struggled with the subject. I enjoyed this and think I have a natural aptitude for teaching. Maths can be challenging because if you miss one small piece of the logic puzzle, the whole concept can seem mystifying. I’m good at pulling out that piece of logic and clearly explaining how it fits into the bigger picture.
Although I love maths, I have struggled sometimes, so I understand how intimidating topics can be when they are first introduced. However, in my experience, with support and encouragement and someone to answer my questions I am relaxed and confident in the subject – and that’s what I’m offering as a tutor.
I used a maths tutor myself during sixth form so I’m familiar with how it works and how much it can help. I can give lessons on particular topics, help with homework or go through past exam papers with students. I offer a flexible approach and an informal atmosphere where students can feel comfortable asking questions. I can offer one-off sessions or regular tutoring, online or face-to-face (see ‘availability’). I would be comfortable working with younger students learning their first maths all the way up to Year 11 students preparing for their GCSE exam.
