About Daniela

My professional background lies at the intersection of forensic anthropology, bioarchaeology, biological sciences and education. I have a longstanding interest in understanding how scientific evidence can help reconstruct past events, interpret human remains and contribute to our understanding of individuals and populations.

My specialist background in forensic anthropology and bioarchaeology allows me to approach forensic science from both a scientific and an investigative perspective, combining knowledge of human skeletal biology with critical analysis and evidence interpretation.

Professional and research experience

My experience includes teaching forensic science and forensic anthropology at further and higher education levels, alongside research in forensic anthropology and bioarchaeology.
At Eurac Research, I conducted research involving human skeletal remains, with work spanning palaeodemography, palaeopathology, activity patterns and skeletal trauma. This experience involved the scientific examination and interpretation of skeletal evidence, contributing to a deeper understanding of human biology, past populations and the information that can be recovered from human remains.
I have also worked in specialist forensic anthropology training and have experience supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research. These roles have strengthened my ability to explain complex scientific concepts, guide students through research and encourage careful, evidence-based reasoning.

My teaching experience has included forensic science and related subjects, allowing me to support students in developing their understanding of forensic methods, scientific principles and the interpretation of evidence.

My approach to teaching

I believe forensic science is best understood when students learn to think like scientists: asking questions, evaluating evidence, considering alternative explanations and recognising the limitations of their conclusions.

I aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where questions are welcomed and challenging concepts are broken down into manageable steps. I value clear communication, critical thinking and scientific accuracy, and I adapt my approach to suit each student's needs and objectives.
Whether you're studying forensic science at university, preparing for assessments or exploring a specialist topic such as forensic anthropology, I want to help you develop both your knowledge and your confidence in applying it.

For me, the most rewarding part of teaching is helping students move beyond simply learning the material to understanding how scientific principles are applied in practice.

If you're fascinated by the science behind investigations and want to develop a deeper understanding of forensic evidence, I'd love to help you on your learning journey.

Discover the science behind crime, learn how forensic evidence is interpreted and develop the analytical skills needed to understand criminal investigations.

Forensic science brings together biology, chemistry, anthropology and analytical reasoning to help us understand what happened during an incident and how evidence can contribute to an investigation. However, learning the subject involves much more than memorising forensic techniques. It requires understanding the scientific principles behind the evidence, recognising the limitations of different methods and interpreting findings critically.

My aim is to make these concepts accessible, engaging and relevant, connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world forensic applications.

My teaching approach

I tailor each lesson to your academic level, learning style and individual goals. Whether you are studying forensic science at college, preparing for university assessments or working through a challenging module, I focus on helping you understand the material rather than simply memorising facts.
I use clear explanations, diagrams, case-based examples, structured notes and practice questions to break down complex topics. Where appropriate, we explore forensic scenarios to examine how evidence is recovered, analysed, interpreted and presented, while considering the importance of scientific integrity, contamination prevention and evidential limitations.
I also encourage critical thinking. Forensic conclusions must be supported by evidence, and understanding uncertainty, alternative explanations and the limitations of scientific methods is just as important as knowing how a technique works.

Topics I can help you with

• Forensic science: the principles of forensic investigation, evidence types, forensic laboratory methods and scientific interpretation.
• Crime-scene investigation: scene examination principles, evidence recognition, documentation, continuity and contamination prevention.
• Forensic anthropology: human skeletal anatomy, biological profiling, skeletal identification, trauma analysis and the interpretation of human remains.
• Forensic biology and genetics: biological evidence, DNA profiling, genetic variation and the scientific principles behind forensic identification.
• Forensic pathology and taphonomy: skeletal and pathological changes, trauma interpretation, decomposition and the effects of environmental factors on human remains.
• Criminal investigation: investigative reasoning, evidence evaluation, hypothesis testing and the relationship between forensic findings and investigative conclusions.
• Academic support: essay planning, research methods, critical analysis, scientific report writing and exam preparation.
The precise topics covered will depend on your course, syllabus and learning objectives.

What to expect from a lesson

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with flexibility to adapt the structure to your needs. We can work through your syllabus, focus on specific areas of difficulty, prepare for assessments or develop your understanding of forensic concepts through guided discussion and applied examples.

I can support students studying forensic science and related subjects at college and university level, as well as learners who want to strengthen their understanding of specific topics.
My goal is to help you become more confident in your subject knowledge, develop sound scientific reasoning and understand not only what forensic evidence can tell us, but also what it cannot.

Forensic science is about more than finding evidence. It's about understanding what that evidence means. Let's explore the science behind the investigation together!
