About Orel

I’ve hosted a number of very fun workshops both online and in person. I’m just as passionate about teaching as I am working as a full-time photographer. I enjoy sharing what I've learned in the 10 years I've spent doing this. With me you'll learn how to create the images that inspire you as well as how to go full-time if that's your goal. My sessions leave artists hungry to create and share their work with others.

When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?
I discovered my passion for photography as I was studying as a producer in Film School. I learned how to use a camera for both photo and video. Photography was an unexpected passion for me. I quickly learned how endless and exciting the art form was. Now I am 10 years into my craft with just as much passion as I had when I started.
Which artists or works affect you the most?
I love any artist that chases their authentic style. You can feel the passion in their work and it inspires me.
What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?
Beyond just knowing how to take great shots, a huge part of being a portrait photographer has to do with understanding people. If people don't feel safe and inspired in your presence then they wont give you their best on camera. I want to understand my clients style and visual goals. I want it to be a collaborative experience so that we both walk away excited at what we created.
What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?
Remember why you picked up your craft. It may have been a billboard, a movie, or a workshop you attended that really lit that fire for you. Always remember that feeling as you learn something new. Doubts, struggles, and conflict will always appear on the journey. However, when you keep that authentic spark alive you'll be able to push through any obstacle.
How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?
When I see someone light up at photos I take of them I also light up inside. It excited me to have a skill that can be shared with absolutely anyone. It keeps me going.
What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?
I've hosted some in person workshops that have all been a great success. There's nothing more exciting than seeing a community being nurtured in an inspiring way.
Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?
Absolutely. Some students feel scared and intimidated but that doesn't mean their motivation is weak. Once I help them understand how to simplify the craft they usually start to advance very quickly. I've actually experienced this with multiple students.
Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?
Honestly, my passion for teaching is equal to my passion for art itself. I get excited seeing others progress and learn their camera. If I can help someone advance their career by learning from my mistakes I'll always help.
