About Matt

Because I have worked inside the college system for nine years, clawed through graduate school for six, suffer through my two BA degrees for three, and attended community college for two, I understand and respect both sides of the educational coin. As a college student, you are constantly bombarded with anxiety, with assignments that may not make sense, and courses that feel useless.

It is crucial to understand that all of it is in service of cultivating a personal skillset which will allow you to live a more fulfilling life. I do not believe college is for work or grade point averages. I understand that these are often the main reasons, because a degree is so often necessary for employment, but attending college and only focusing on your future job title necessarily forces you to miss the boundless and beautiful opportunities at personal development right there, right now.

I will not give you answers. I will not tell you what words to write. I will help you develop your own voice, your own methods, and your own successes. You deserve them!

About the lesson

As an Academic Support Specialist, which is just a fancy title for Teaching Assistant, for nine years, I have worked with a diverse population of college students in an ever-expanding collection of fields. I do not only help with English courses. I work on writing in general, no matter the subject area.

My tutoring philosophy is simple: my job is to make sure you do not need me. I want to save you money. As such, I approach each session uniquely, identifying your specific problem areas and developing concrete solutions. Because the data is clear that one’s own writing is the best source of learning, we will always evaluate your writing samples, and I will assist in anything from brainstorming to final proofreading!
